South Africa has been struck by devastating circumstances over the past few days. As our members are at the heart of our business, we reassure you that we will take all steps necessary to ensure you continue to access quality healthcare and will provide support to you where possible.
We have therefore put the following measures in place as we note that delivery of chronic medicine, access to hospitals and basic healthcare support has been compromised during this trying time.
You can access any hospital during this time
Members on network options will be able to access any hospital for emergencies and non-elective procedures/surgeries as we have lifted co-payments for non-network use to ensure ease of access.
Obtaining your chronic medicine
We note that there have been delivery challenges across the country. We have engaged with our service provider, Pharmacy Direct and can confirm that effective Thursday, 15 July 2021, all chronic medication courier deliveries will resume across the country except in KwaZulu Natal. We request your patience while these deliveries are being dispatched.
Alternative plans are being put in place for members who reside in KwaZulu Natal. We are actively working with pharmacies and supply chains to ensure that our members are able to obtain their chronic medicine safely.
Support for expectant mothers and families with young children
Pregnancy and looking after small children can be trying under normal circumstances. We therefore want to remind you that should you need maternity support or healthcare advice for your babies or children under 3, please contact us on 087 056 9888. Our nurses are experts in their field and are available 24/7 to provide optimum advice and support during this time.
Consult with a doctor wherever you are
Our virtual care GPs are available on the Bonitas Member App and Member Portal for you to consult with 7 days a week, should you require medical assistance and support.
Please make use of our Covid-19 support initiatives
As we are in the midst of the third wave, we encourage our members to contact us should they require home-based care or access to oxygen at this time. You can also access the COVID-19 hub at www.bonitas.co.za/covid. The hub contains a plethora of information on support measures as well as access to register for your COVID-19 vaccine.
Please contact us if you need assistance with your medical aid
We are available to support you through our live chat function on the Bonitas Member App, WhatsApp channel and Member Portal on the website.

We urge all South Africans to stand together during this difficult time. Our thoughts and prayers go out to members who have been affected by these events. May God bless South Africa and all her people.
