INTERNATIONAL TRAVEL BENEFIT

1.WHAT DOES BONITAS INTERNATIONAL TRAVEL COVER?

  • This Benefit covers you and your dependents for Emergency Medical Conditions when you travel outside of South Africa.
  • The international travel insurance for Emergency Medical Conditions covers unforeseen and unexpected illnesses or accidental injuries provided you have obtained pre-authorisation to cover your hospital stay.
  • The cover provided is not a medical scheme and does not cover medical procedures that can be done in South Africa.

2. WHAT IS THE BENEFIT LIMIT?

LEISURE TRAVEL: Emergency Medical & Related Expenses
  • Ninety (90) days Excluding USA - R5 million where there is only one member. R10 million for a family (including main members and dependents). Epidemic, Pandemic relating to COVID-19 is limited to R5 million for family (including main member and dependents).
  • Forty-five (45) days Including USA - R500,000 (five hundred thousand rands) including conditions relating to COVID-19 for a family (including main member and dependents).
BUSINESS TRAVEL: Emergency Medical & Related Expenses
  • Forty-five (45) days Excluding USA - R5 million where there is only one member. R10 million for a family (including main member and dependents). COVID-19 is limited to R5 million for family (including main member and dependents).
  • Forty-five (45) days Including USA - R500,000 (five hundred thousand rands) including conditions relating to COVID-19 for a family (including main member and dependents).
BUSINESS AND LEISURE TRAVEL: Pre-Existing Medical Condition
  • Up to R200,000 (two hundred thousand rands) if You become ill due to sudden and unexpected acute onset of a Pre-Existing Medical Condition as an inpatient while in hospital (excludes any outpatient treatment)
MEDICAL QUARANTINE ACCOMMODATION COST: Not hospitalised as an inpatient
  • When tested positive for Epidemic, Pandemic relating to COVID-19. R1,000 (one thousand rands) per day up to R10,000 (ten thousand rands).
  • Test for Epidemic, Pandemic relating to COVID-19 (when tested positive) R1,000 (one thousand rands).

3.WHO MANAGES THE BENEFIT?

The Bonitas International Travel benefit is managed by Europ Assistance and administered by Linkham Services SA (Pty) Ltd (FSP 45396). Underwritten by GENRIC Insurance Company Limited (FSP: 43638), an Authorised Financial Services Provider and licenced non-life Insurer

4.WHO IS COVERED?

Bonitas members (excluding members on BonCap) who live in South Africa and regard it as their permanent residence are entitled to this Benefit.

5.WHAT IS COVERED?

  • Emergency Medical and Related Expenses.
  • Hospitalisation: outpatient and in-patient.
  • Emergency optical and dental expenses
  • Medical Repatriation, Evacuation, and Transportation

6.IS MANDATORY VACCINES COVERED?

THERE ARE NO BENEFITS AVAILABLE FOR VACCINES

7.WHAT IS NOT COVERED (EXCLUDED)?

  • Outpatient treatment relating to Pre-existing Medical Conditions.
  • Travelling on a one-way airline ticket.
  • Cover for winter sports, adventure, and/or hazardous activities.
  • Cover not activated before you leave South Africa.
  • A child born whilst on the journey.
  • Treatment that the medical advisors are aware of will arise during the international journey or where a medical advisor has advised against travel.
  • Investigatory treatment that is not specified by a medical practitioner appointed by the Insurer as immediately necessary
  • Elective surgery, procedures or medical appointments, and travel specifically to obtain treatment abroad
  • The benefits will not cover you if you intend to emigrate.
  • Mandatory Vaccines
  • Expenses incurred in obtaining or replacing medication.
  • Additional costs arising from single or private room accommodation.
  • Treatment or services provided by a health spa, convalescent or nursing home, or any rehabilitation center unless agreed by the Emergency Assistance Service.
  • Any costs incurred by you to visit another person in a hospital
  • Any expenses incurred after you have returned to South Africa.
  • Any expenses incurred after the date we exercise our rights under this section to move you from one hospital to another and/or arrange for your repatriation, but you decide not to be moved or repatriated.
  • Business travel undertaking manual labour.

8.HOW TO MAKE SURE YOU ARE COVERED?

To be eligible to receive benefits under Bonitas International travel, your premiums must be up to date and the travel insurance policy was issued before your date of departure from South Africa.

Please note that the turnaround time for receipt of the policy document is 24 business hours. Please read the policy document carefully to ensure that you understand all the terms and conditions.

9.WHAT INFORMATION IS REQUIRED WHEN REQUESTING COVER FOR AN OVERSEAS TRIP?

  • Member medical aid and plan.
  • Member number.
  • Full names and surname as reflected in the passport.
  • ID number.
  • Contact numbers.
  • Departure date and date of arrival back in South Africa.
  • Destinations.
  • Are you travelling for business or leisure?
  • Will you be participating in any hazardous pursuits or adventure sports?
  • Do you have any pre-existing conditions?
  • Email address to where the policy document should be emailed
  • Physical Address.
  • Credit card used to purchase an airline ticket.

10. HOW TO GET EMERGENCY ASSISTANCE?

Emergency medical assistance is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week

11. WHAT MUST YOU DO?

  • Read the Policy Wording and Schedule of Benefits to be familiarised with what is covered and not covered.
  • Obtain your family’s travel insurance policies before they leave on the trip.
  • Consult with your doctor to ensure you are fit and healthy to travel.
  • In the event of an incident, it is your duty to contact the Emergency Assistance Services.

For all expenses ove R5,000 (five thousand rands), contact Our Emergency Assistance Services on +27 (11) 991 8174 or email assist@europassistance.co.za for pre-authorisation and to case manage the admission. If Our Emergency Assistance Services are not contacted before incurring the expenses, we will limit our liability to R5,000 (five thousand rands).
